Quick troubleshooting for Portable diesel generators

Portable diesel generators are perfect devices for generating electricity for home office or you recreational vehicles .They are better than gas ones but as we know that diesel is a little bit expensive but it deserves .Portable diesel generators don't have spark plugs and you will see that they are very easy to maintain. In this post we will talk about some troubleshootings for keeping you portable diesel generator good
Corroded battery posts, blown fuses and contaminated gas are some elements you should care about.

Here are some tools you may need in our Troubleshooting :

  • Voltage meter
  • Wire brush

Instructions:

1- When the generator become cool, check the fuel levels like diesel and oil.
Use 15w40 diesel for portable diesel generators.
Use automotive diesel for the generator.

2- If the battery is bad or damaged, replace it immediately.
If the generator doesn’t crank, you will have to replace the 12-volt fuse with another one (Fuse located on control panel) .
Check the battery charge with the voltage meter. The reading has to be more than 9.5 VDC and full battery should be 12.6 VDC.

3- One of the most common failures is that there is air inside the fuel lines in the portable diesel generators , so you will need to remove the fuel line and let the diesel flow easily and freely in the fuel line till the air has been removed then return the fuel line back to your generator into the fuel pump

4- Check the battery for corrosion. Some people say that their portable diesel generators crank but they don't start, that’s because of corrosion. Use the wire brush to remove all the corrosion then try.
Check the throttle if it is in run position.

5- The fuel of the portable diesel generator can be sometimes contaminated after long time in the tank

IMPORTANT TIPS

  • Don’t you ever refuel the portable diesel generator when it is running?

  • Don’t use portable diesel generators outside when it rains or snows .

  • When you finish using the generator, leave it to cool for a while before storing it .

  • Put the generator on a flattened ground .

  • Put the portable diesel generator away from any near objects at least 2 feet away because of the generated temprature which may reach 140 Fahrenheit .

  • Be careful when you fix portable diesel generators because they may be potential electric shock or exhausted fumes come from it .

  • Always provide ventilation to the portable diesel generator when you run it in enclosed places.
